Question from Felicity A.: My friend has a setup where her photos are automatically uploaded to Dropbox every time she plugs the camera into her laptop.
How do I set my computer up to do this? It’s a Dell Inspiron with Windows 7.
Rick’s answer: Felicity, your friend is taking advantage of the Dropbox application’s “Camera Upload” feature. It’s very easy to set up. Here’s how:
1 – Visit this page to make sure you have the latest version of the Dropbox application installed on your computer.
2 – Click the Dropbox icon in the system tray (the row of tiny icons located in the lower right-hand corner of the screen).
3 – Click the “gear” shaped Settings icon and select Preferences.
4 – In the “Camera Upload” section, click Change AutoPlay Settings. A new window will pop up containing the AutoPlay settings.
5 – Find the menu that’s labeled “Pictures” and select Import pictures and video using Dropbox.
That’s all there is to it Felicity. From now on your photos should be automatically uploaded to Dropbox every time you connect your camera to your PC or insert a memory card.
Note: If you ever want to disable Camera Upload, just repeat these steps above and change the “Pictures” setting in step 5 to Take no action.
