If you tend to post and interact with others a lot on Facebook, you’ve probably noticed all the audible notifications you receive when there’s a lot of activity going on.
At times it can sound like you’re in the middle of an arcade!
If you’d prefer some peace and quiet over the endless barrage of Facebook’s notification sounds, you can easily turn them off.
The steps you’ll need to take to disable notification sounds will depend on what kind of device you use to access Facebook. Below you’ll find instructions for both computers and mobile devices.
Follow these steps if you’re using Facebook in a web browser on a laptop or desktop computer:
1 – Click the Account Settings link located at the far-right end of the blue bar at the top of the Facebook window.
2 – Click Settings.
3 – Click the Notifications link in the left-hand column.
4 – Click On Facebook and toggle both settings in the “Sound” section to Off.
Follow these steps if you’re using the Facebook app on a mobile device:
1 – Tap the Menu icon (it looks like three horizontal lines stacked atop one another).
2 -Scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy.
3 – Tap Settings.
4 – Scroll down and tap Notification Settings.
5 – Scroll down and tap Push.
6 – Tap Sounds to toggle that setting to Off (the slider at the right should turn from blue to gray).
That’s all there is to it. From now on your friends can interact with you and your posts all they want and you (or anyone else for that matter) won’t hear a peep!
If you ever change your mind and decide that you’d like to start hearing notification sounds again simply repeat the steps above for your device and toggle the sounds back on.
