Today’s Quick Tip….
How (and why) to enable ‘High Contrast’ on your Windows PC
Are you a Windows user with vision issues that make it difficult for you to read the text on your computer screen?
If so, I recommend that you try turning on ‘High Contrast’ mode to see if that helps. Many users with impaired vision find that it does.
It’s easy to enable ‘High Contrast’ in Windows 10 and Windows 11. Just follow the steps below for the version of Windows that’s on your PC.
If you have Windows 10:
1 – Click the Start button and then immediately start typing the words high contrast.
2 – Click Turn high contrast on or off after it pops up in the search results.
3 – Toggle the ‘Turn on high contrast’ setting to On.
4 – The screen should now have a completely different color scheme, and there’s a good chance that you don’t like it. But don’t worry, you can now choose a color scheme that’s more to your liking and customize it using the options provided.
If you find that you simply don’t like ‘High Contrast’ mode (or if it doesn’t seem to help) you can easily disable it by toggling the ‘Turn on high contrast’ setting back to Off.
If you have Windows 11:
1 – Click the Start button and then immediately start typing the words contrast themes.
2 – Click Contrast themes after it pops up in the search results.
3 – Choose a new ‘Contrast theme’ by choosing one of the available options in the drop-down box, then clicking Apply.
4 – The screen should now have a completely different color scheme, and there’s a good chance that you don’t like it. But don’t worry, you can now customize the colors of the current theme by clicking the Edit button and then making your selections.
If you find that the theme you selected in step 3 just isn’t to your liking you repeat that step and try choosing a different theme.
If you find that you simply don’t like ‘High Contrast’ mode (or if it doesn’t seem to help) you can easily disable it repeating step 3 and selecting None.
