Today’s quick tech tip….
Q&A: Can you recommend a good antivirus app for Android?
Question from Joan: I just bought my first Android phone and I’m worried that it might possibly catch a virus at some point.
Are there any antivirus apps available for it like the ones we use on our computers? If so, can you recommend a good one?
Rick’s answer: Joan, you’re very wise to consider the possibility of your Android phone potentially catching a virus at some point.
Unlike iPhones and iPads, Android devices are prime targets for hackers and purveyors of malware due to their more open and more readily accessible underlying software code.
For that reason it’s always wise to be wary of malware when using any Android device.
To answer your question, there are several really good antivirus apps available in the Google Play Store, but the one I use and recommend is AVG Antivirus for Android.
I’ve used several Android antivirus apps over the years and AVG seems to be the best of the lot based on my experiences with those apps.
AVG Antivirus for Android is free, but it does contain ads and offer in-app purchases. But that’s to be expected for most any type of modern app. After all, the companies behind them have to make money somehow in order to stay in business.
I recommend that you give AVG a try. Just search for it in the Google Play store and it’ll pop right up.
Note: You’ll find more tips for protecting your Android device(s) from malware right here.
