Today’s featured tech tip….
How (and when) to clear your Custom Dictionary on Windows 11
Have you ever noticed that Windows 11 offers suggestions for words and phrases while you’re typing?
Those suggestions are drawn from your Custom Dictionary, a database containing words and phrases that Windows has saved on your behalf while you were typing things in the past.
The Custom Dictionary can a be real timesaver if you tend to make lots of typos and misspellings (like me), but what if your Custom Dictionary contains a lot of typos and misspellings that it has collected over time, thinking they were actually correct?
Yep, Windows 11 can, and often does offer the typos and misspellings it has stored in your Custom Dictionary as potential fixes for new mistakes that you make. And after a while it can get a bit frustrating.
That’s why every now and then it helps to clear everything out of your Custom Dictionary and force it to start over fresh. Here’s how:
1 – Right-click the Start button, then select Settings from the menu.
2 – In the left-hand pane, click Privacy & security.
3 – In the right-hand pane, click Inking & typing personalization.
4 – Click Custom Dictionary.
5 – Click the Clear your custom dictionary button.
That’s all there is to it. You can now start rebuilding your custom dictionary from scratch over time as you type on your PC.
