Today’s Quick Tip….
Will the apps on a Windows 10 PC work with Windows 11?
I’ve received a number of emails and instant messages of late asking if updating a PC from Windows 10 to Windows 11 will cause any of their installed programs and apps to stop working.
Well, the short answer is no…
Windows 11 is basically Windows 10 with a fresh coat of paint. Virtually anything that runs OK under Windows 10 should also work fine with Windows 11, including hardware drivers.
Although anything is possible when it comes to Windows, I have yet to receive a report from someone saying the update to Windows 11 from Windows 10 broke a program, app or driver on their PC.
What’s more, Microsoft basically said as much in the following quote from their What’s new in Windows 11 page:
“Your Windows 10 apps will also work on Windows 11. App Assure is also available if there are some issues.“
Bottom line: There are a number of legitimate reasons why one might not want to update from Windows 10 to Windows 11, but app compatibility isn’t one of them.
