Today’s featured tech tip….
Improve your typing skills with this great tool
Whether you use a computer all day at work or just for an hour or two at home in the evenings to catch up on Facebook or Twitter, it really helps to have at least a few basic typing skills.
While you don’t need to be an expert 70 words-per-minute typist, knowing your way around a keyboard can definitely make your computer time more efficient and more enjoyable.
If you’d like to brush up on your typing skills there are many good online typing practice and testing sites online, and most of them allow you to access their tools at no charge.
One excellent example is Typing.com, a site that provides a graphically-oriented set of instructional aids that do a great job at helping you develop a wide range of typing skills, all the way from Beginner to Advanced.
Note: You don’t have to create an account at Typing.com just to take the online lessons. Since the site is advertiser-supported you can just head straight to the “Lessons” section and get right to it.
However, creating an account will allow you to track your progress and easily pick up where you left off.
My recommendation: Don’t bother creating an account. You can track your progress yourself by writing everything down on an index card.
Always remember that every online account you create becomes yet another account that can potentially get hacked or otherwise compromised. Just sayin’.
To get started without creating an account, click here and select a skill level in the left-hand column, then click the Start button that corresponds to the first lesson.
Note: Some lessons begin with a short video offering a bit of background and general information pertaining to that lesson. You can either watch those videos or click the Skip video button and go straight to the lesson.
