These days wireless Wi-Fi connections are the norm, but there are still situations in which we need to connect our computers to a router with a wired Ethernet connection.
In fact, just last month three different people asked me how they can connect a recent MacBook Pro or MacBook Air that doesn’t have an RJ-45 Ethernet connector to their router via an Ethernet cable.
It can be certainly be done, and it’s actually quite easy to do… All you need is a Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.
These adapters couldn’t be simpler to use. Just plug the adapter’s thunderbolt connector into your MacBook and then plug an Ethernet cable between the adapter’s RJ-45 connector and the router.
Once the adapter and Ethernet cables have been attached you’ll have a brand new and super-fast Gigabit speed wired Ethernet connection directly to your router.
Now you’re ready to follow the software setup instructions on this page to get your new wired Ethernet connection up and running.
Bottom line: If you happen to be in a situation where your only option is to connect your recent MacBook Pro or MacBook Air to the network via a wired Ethernet connection (or if you want to take advantage of wired Gigabit speed), you can. All you need is one of these nifty Thunderbolt to Gigabit Ethernet Adapters.
