Microsoft (sort of) throws in the towel on their development of the Edge browser

After years of trying to prop up the failing (and extremely insecure) Internet Explorer web browser, Microsoft finally saw the writing on the wall and made the decision to abandon it.

To that end, Microsoft developed their shiny new Edge browser and released it along with the initial release of Windows 10.

Luckily, Edge isn’t just an updated version of IE.

It’s in fact a brand new browser, built from the ground up with a new browser engine that supports all the latest web technologies right out of the box.

And truth be told, Edge is indeed a massive improvement over IE in terms of both speed and security.

The problem is, Edge never really gained a foothold in the browser market. In fact, as of November 2018 it still only had a minuscule percentage of the browser market share according to market research firm StatCounter.

Still using Windows XP or Vista? If so, you won’t be able to update Avast Antivirus when the next version is released.

Avast has announced that the current version of Avast Antivirus (version 18.8) is the last version that can be installed on PCs running either Windows XP or Windows Vista.

That means if your PC is still running either XP or Vista you won’t be able to update to the next version of Avast when it gets released next year.

What to do if your machine’s Windows 10 installation gets deactivated

Many Windows 10 users have discovered that their machine’s Windows installation has been deactivated, and a number of them have messaged me asking what’s going on.

In a nutshell, Microsoft is experiencing an issue with their Activation servers that’s causing some Windows 10 installations to lose their “Activated” status.
