Q&A: How can I make thumb typing easier on my iPad?

Posted on March 8, 2023

Question from Pauline:  I have a question for you Rick.

I’ve been using a 7 inch Android tablet for my Facebooking but the battery recently went bad in it.

Instead of buying another Android tablet I decided to try an iPad. I ended up buying a 10.9 inch model which is a bit larger than what I was used to.

I didn’t know what to expect because I’d never owned anything from Apple before, but I found out that I really love it.

I’m having one problem though. I could hold the 7 inch tablet by its sides and type with my thumbs, but I can’t do that with the larger iPad because the keys are spread out too far.

Do you know if there’s a way to make it easier to type on my new iPad using my thumbs? Maybe by using an app, perhaps?  [Read more…]

Q&A: Will I have to overclock my PC again if I reset Windows?

Posted on March 8, 2023

Question from Brandon:  A guy I play games with online told me how to overclock my computer to make it run the games faster.

I followed his instructions and did it and everything was great for about 2 days.

Then I must have downloaded a virus or something because my computer has started acting strange. It’s locking up on me and shutting down on its own.

I ran my virus checker but it didn’t find anything so I want to follow your instructions to reset Windows 10 to see it that will fix it.

If I reset Windows will it wipe out the overclocking? I’d hate to have to go through all those BIOS settings again.

Question from Harlan:  Hi, Rick. I just recently found your blog and I love your tips. Great stuff!!

I have a question for you if you don’t mind.

A friend of mine told me that letting my phone and laptop charge overnight will damage the battery by overcharging it.

I do this all the time and I’ve never noticed a problem. Is it ok to charge my gadgets overnight or should I avoid it?  [Read more…]

Q&A: How do I display my maiden name on Facebook?

Posted on March 2, 2023

Question from Peggy:  I know my question will probably make me sound dumb but I have to ask it anyway.

Several old friends from my school days had trouble finding me on Facebook because they were searching for my maiden name.

How do I add my maiden name to my Facebook profile but have it separate from my married name? In other words display my married name like it is now with my maiden name underneath it?

Q&A: Is it safe to keep using an antivirus that has expired?

Posted on March 1, 2023

Question from Jimmy:  A few months ago I bought a new laptop that came with McAfee Antivirus pre-installed on it.

I thought it was the real McAfee program but apparently it was just a trial version because this morning I got a notice saying the trial subscription had expired.

I tried to uninstall it so I could install Avira but I can’t get it to uninstall. It gives me an error every time I try to remove it.

My question is would it be safe for me to keep using the McAfee program that’s installed on my laptop even though it’s expired? [Read more…]
