Question from Jane:  I bought a monitor and connected it to my laptop and then changed the settings so I could close the lid while the laptop is running. It’s been working fine now for about four months.

The thing is one of my friends saw this setup and he told me running the laptop with the lid closed will eventually kill it due to excessive heat build-up.

Is that true? As always, thanks so much for your advice.  [Read more…]

Question from Roland:  I have a laptop that’s provided by my employer for business use. I have a question about also using it at home for personal use.

I’m allowed to take the laptop home every night, and I’m wondering if using Chrome in “Incognito Mode” will prevent the guys in IT from finding out which websites I visit?

Question from Elliot:  A year and a half ago I bought a wireless keyboard/mouse combo to make it easier to use my laptop. I hate those trackpads and small keyboards!

I was typing an email this morning and all of a sudden the keyboard just stopped working. I figured the batteries needed to be replaced, but new ones didn’t fix the problem.

The mouse still works fine and a wired keyboard I plugged in works too. I rebooted the laptop but that didn’t help.

What do you think might be the problem? [Read more…]

Question from Peyton:  I recently dropped my old Yahoo email address and switched to Gmail.

But every time I load a page with Chrome the old email address keeps popping up in forms that ask for my email address.

I can delete the old address and type in the new one but I’d prefer not having the old one to pop up at all.

How can I fix this?  [Read more…]
