‘Flash On Call’ alerts you with a bright flash when you receive a voice call

Posted on October 28, 2016

flash-on-callDo you often miss incoming calls because your Android phone is on mute and you don’t realize that someone is trying to call you?

Sure, the screen will come on and let you know there’s a call coming in, but unless you’re relatively close to the phone (and happen to be looking at it), it’s very easy to miss the visual alert – and hence you miss the call.

Well, there’s a simple way to ensure that you never miss the visual alert for another incoming call. All you have to do is install a handy free app called Flash On Call.  [Read more…]

Easily encrypt your emails with the ‘Enlocked’ browser add-on

Posted on January 21, 2016

enlocked-logoMuch to the chagrin of the Postal Service, the number of emails sent each day far exceeds the number of “snail mail” letters sent during the same time period. And for good reason…

Instead of writing a letter, stuffing it in an envelope, putting a stamp on it, mailing it, and waiting to see if it ever arrives at its intended destination at some point in the future, you can simply type out an email, click “Send” and have it land in the recipient’s inbox in seconds.

But the convenience and low cost (virtually free) of email comes with one major drawback: It is completely insecure. Since they are not encrypted, email messages can be intercepted and read at any “stop” along their digital routes.

As luck would have it, it’s easy to encrypt emails before they are sent using most any of the major online email providers (Gmail, Yahoo Mail, etc.) with a browser add-on called Enlocked.

Follow the steps below to check it out:  [Read more…]

Your Android phone has a wonderful power-saving feature called “Doze”, and it’s really pretty amazing.

In a nutshell, Doze puts your phone into a deep sleep when it’s idle, preventing non-critical apps from transferring data in the background during the times when your phone isn’t being used.

Don’t worry, your phone will still ring when someone calls you and you’ll still receive incoming text messages, but pretty much everything else is placed in a holding pattern. And that helps your phone’s battery lost a lot longer than it would otherwise.  [Read more…]

Great news: Firefox is now available for iPhone and iPad

Posted on November 18, 2015

firefox-app-logoMozilla’s Firefox has long been one of the most popular web browsers out there for desktop and laptop users, and Android users have been able to download a fantastic Firefox app from the Google Play Store for some time now.

Many Apple iOS users have been clamoring for a Firefox app for their iPhones and iPads, but for whatever reason Mozilla never got around to placing one in the iTunes store.

Well, that has finally changed. Mozilla released Firefox for iOS a few days ago, and I really like it.  [Read more…]
