How (and when) to boot your Mac into Safe Mode

Posted on January 22, 2024

Safe Mode is a powerful tool that can help resolve software and hardware issues that are often difficult to identify while a full-blown Windows installation is running.

In a nutshell, booting a machine into Safe Mode typically loads only the operating system kernel plus just a few basic hardware device drivers.

This is basically a stripped down version of the operating system that isn’t affected by any auto-loading programs or advanced device drivers.  [Read more…]

How to block adult-oriented videos on YouTube

Posted on January 17, 2024

As you probably know, YouTube hosts billions of videos on pretty much every topic under the sun, and the vast majority of them can be viewed at any time for free.

This is why I wrote a post a while back explaining why YouTube is one of the best sites on the Internet for helping you quickly learn how to do something you’ve never done before.

Those two methods range from “inexpensive, and slightly complicated” to “just slightly more expensive, but dead-simple“:   [Read more…]

Perhaps they sometimes use language that’s a little too salty for your taste or they tend to post a hundred status updates a day filled with meaningless drivel that you could not care less about.

The list of potential annoyances goes on and on.

How to schedule a Gmail message for future delivery

Posted on January 5, 2024

Have you ever composed an email message and wished you could have it be delivered to the recipient’s inbox at some specific future date and time?

For example, maybe you’d like to write someone a birthday greeting ahead of time to make sure you don’t forget it.

That’s all well and good, but what if you forget to log back into your email account and send the message when that person’s birthday actually arrives?

Luckily, Gmail allows you to schedule your emails to be delivered at any specific future date and time of your choosing.  [Read more…]
