Question from Michael B: Rick, I accidentally deleted some Windows files and ended up having to do a System Restore. I held my breath the entire time, but thank goodness it worked!
Everything seems to be back to normal now, but my AVG Free Antivirus won’t load. Do you have any idea why (and how I can fix it)? This is Windows 7 Pro on a Dell Latitude E6530 laptop.
Rick’s answer: Michael, I’m thinking that your AVG installation became corrupted when those files got deleted, and the System Restore didn’t fix the problem. System Restore is one of the most awesome Windows tools ever to come out of Redmond, but it doesn’t always work as perfectly as we would like.
I recommend using Geek Uninstaller to completely wipe out your current AVG Antivirus installation, then reinstall it from scratch. I’m fairly confident that AVG will start up and run just fine after that. If it doesn’t, let me know and I’ll tell you what to try next.
Update from Michael: Your solution worked perfectly Rick. And by the way, Geek Uninstaller is awesome!!!! Thanks for your help!
