Today’s quick tech tip….
How (and when) to use Chrome in ‘Guest’ mode
Do you ever use someone else’s computer to surf the web?
For example, do you occasionally spend the weekend with a relative and use their computer while you’re there?
Or perhaps you use one of the computers at your local library?
If you do use someone else’s computer on occasion it’s a good idea to keep your Internet activities completely separate from theirs, and an easy way to do that is to use Google’s Chrome browser in ‘Guest’ mode.
In a nutshell, Guest mode will prevent you from accidentally making changes to any of the existing user profiles that exist on that computer.
What’s more, it will automatically delete every trace of your browsing history when you finish your session and close the browser.
Luckily, it’s very easy to use Chrome in Guest mode. Just follow the steps below:
1 – Launch Chrome, then click the Profile icon in the top-right corner of the Chrome window.
Note: The profile icon will either appear as the thumbnail photo of the currently signed-in user or Chrome’s generic profile icon.
2 – Click the word Guest at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
That’s all there is to it. You should now see a blank ‘Guest’ browser tab that you can use just like you always use Chrome.
When you’re finished with your browser session simply close the browser and Chrome will automatically wipe away all of your browsing history, effectively erasing your entire browsing session from Chrome’s history and activity logs.
And by the way, if you allow someone else to use YOUR computer it’s a good idea to insist that they use Chrome in Guest mode as well. Just sayin’.
