Today’s quick tech tip….
Q&A: Can I hide my email address on LinkedIn?
Question from Elizabeth: I recently started using LinkedIn and I’ve noticed that I can see the email addresses of my connections.
It just occurred to me that if I can see other people’s email addresses they must be able to see mine too.
I’d really rather keep my email address private. Is there a way to hide it like I did on Facebook?
Rick’s answer: You sure can hide your email address from other LinkedIn users, Elizabeth. And luckily, it’s quite easy to do. Just follow the steps below for the device you’re using.
If you use LinkedIn in a web browser on a laptop or desktop computer:
1 – Sign in to your LinkedIn account.
2 – Click your small profile picture on the top menu bar, then click Settings & privacy.
3 – In the left-hand pane, click Visibility.
4 – In the right-hand pane, click Who can see or download your email address.
5 – Select Only visible to me.
6 – Toggle the “Allow connection to export emails” setting to Off.
If you use the LinkedIn app on a mobile device:
1 – Sign in to your LinkedIn account.
2 – Tap your small profile picture at the top of the screen, then select Settings from the menu.
3 – Tap Visibility.
4 – Tap Who can see or download your email address.
5 – Select Only visible to me.
6 – Toggle the “Allow connection to export emails” setting to Off.
That’s all there is to it. From now on your email address will be hidden from everyone on LinkedIn except for you, and your connections won’t be able to export (i.e. download) them either.
