Today’s quick tech tip….
Q&A: How do I open Finder on my Mac with the keyboard?
Question from Robert: I could be wrong but I believe I remember reading somewhere that you can open a Finder window without having to use the mouse, but I don’t remember where I saw it.
Can you tell me how to do it?
Due to hand mobility issues, I really prefer using the keyboard over the mouse whenever possible.
Rick’s answer: You’re right, Robert. It’s indeed possible open Finder using your Mac’s keyboard.
First, press the Option+Command+Space key combination to open a “Finder Search Window”.
This isn’t the actual Finder window, but you can do most anything with it that you can do with the actual Finder window by selecting the relevant option in the left-hand pane.
As a bonus you can quickly find most anything you’re looking for by typing a query into the search box at the top of the window.
If you still want to open an actual Finder window at this point, simply press Command+N and it’ll pop right up.
