Today’s Quick Tip….
Q&A: How do I stop my iPhone photos from downloading to my Mac?
Question from Della: Every picture I take with my iPhone gets uploaded to iCloud and then downloaded to my Mac.
This is causing my Mac’s storage to run low and I need to put a stop to it before it completely fills up the drive.
How can I stop the photos I take with my iPhone from being downloaded to the Mac?
Rick’s answer: Della, the ability to sync files among multiple devices is a great thing – except when it isn’t.
As you’ve discovered, if you have syncing enabled on all of your devices and you take lots of photos you can easily end up in the situation you’re in.
Luckily, it’s very easy to prevent your iPhone photos from being downloaded from iCloud to your Mac. Just follow the steps below:
1 – Open the Photos app on your Mac.
2 – Click the Photos link on the top menu bar, then select Preferences from the drop-down menu.
3 – Select the iCloud tab, then uncheck the iCloud Photos option.
That’s all there is to it. Your Mac will no longer download new photos from your iCloud storage.
You now have the option of freeing up some storage on your Mac by deleting some photos from the “Library” section of the Photos app.

• Buying a drone? Don’t forget to register it with the FAA.
If you’re planning to buy a drone (or if you already own one) you need to register it with the FAA in order to avoid incurring some rather severe penalties. This post has more info on that.
