Back in January I wrote a post about how Microsoft was beginning the gradual transition of Office from a suite of desktop applications to a suite of cloud based apps.
Now Adobe has announced that they plan to end the development of new features for the popular Adobe Creative Suite desktop software package altogether and transition as many Adobe software users as possible to the cloud as well.
The new cloud-based bundle of Adobe software will be aptly named Adobe Creative Cloud.
Beginning with the launch of Adobe Creative Cloud on June 17, Adobe Creative Suite will no longer be updated. You’ll have to subscribe to the Cloud version in order to continue upgrading to the latest and greatest Adobe products when they become available. All the bundled apps in the Adobe Cloud suite will bear the CC moniker instead of the now familiar CS.
The Adobe Creative Cloud suite will include all of the following:
- Adobe Photoshop CC
- Adobe Illustrator CC
- Adobe InDesign CC
- AdobeDreamweaver CC
- AdobeAftereffects CC
- Adobe Premiere Pro CC
- Adobe Muse CC
- Acrobat XI Pro
- Adobe Audition
- Adobe Bridge CC
- Adobe Encore
- Adobe Fireworks
- Adobe Flash Builder 4.7 Premium
- Adobe Flash Professional CC
- Adobe InCopy CC
- Adobe Photoshop Lightroom
- Adobe Media Encoder CC
- Adobe Prelude CC
- Adobe SpeedGrade CC
Where will this comprehensive move to the cloud leave current Adobe Creative Suite owners? The company has promised to provide updates for CS 6 through the next upgrade cycle, but after that cycle has been completed users of the desktop applications will need to subscribe to the cloud-based Adobe CC package in order to receive further updates.
Access to all Adobe Creative Cloud products will require the payment of either a monthly or annual membership fee that varies depending on customer status and other criteria. The monthly fee for the use of a single app (such as Adobe Photoshop CC, Adobe Dreamweaver CC, etc.) will be $19.99. Complete info on the packages available and their corresponding prices are available right here.
