Question from Carol: Hi, Rick. I need your help with a problem I’m having if you don’t mind.
I recently had a stroke and it affected my eyesight. My recovery is going well but I still don’t see nearly as well as I used to.
One of the biggest problems I have is reading the text on my phone. It would help a lot if I could make the letters bigger.

If you’re old enough to remember using the bulky CRT-style computer monitors of times past, you’re probably also familiar with screensavers, those always-in-motion images that kept the screen from “burning-in” while the computer was sitting idle.
Now that we’ve transitioned from CRT monitors to modern flat-screen monitors we no longer have a need for screensavers.
But guess what? Microsoft Windows still offers the option of launching a screensaver after a PC has been sitting idle for a few minutes. [Read more…]

Virtually all smart IoT devices that connect to the Internet collect various types of data about you, your home and/or your family’s activities and send that info back to the company that made the device.
Of course some data collection and transfer activities are essential in order for the device to serve its intended purpose (an IP camera capturing video and sending it to your remote smartphone, for example), but depending on the device and how it is used some of the data that’s collected can be quite intrusive.
