Today’s featured tech tip….
Reminder: Only use one antivirus app at a time
I’ve written several blog posts in the past explaining why you should only use one full-time antivirus app at a time, but I’m still receiving requests for help with removing viruses from PCs that have two or more such apps running on them.
As this post explains, two running antivirus apps will fight each other and neither of them will do an effective job at protecting your machine from viral infections.
If you have two or more of them running on your PC you really need to choose one and uninstall the others.
Of course you can (and should) run periodic scans with a good on-demand antivirus scanner to get a second opinion when your full-time antivirus fails to detect any nasties.
After all, no antivirus app is perfect and they’ll all miss something on occasion. A “second opinion” scan with one of the apps mentioned here just might catch what the regular scans miss.
In case you’re wondering, you can safely run an on-demand scanner at any time because those won’t conflict with your full-time antivirus app.
Just make sure you don’t run two or more full-time apps at once and you’ll be fine.
