Today’s featured tech tip….
Try this if a website won’t load (and you know it’s online)
Have you ever tried to load a website in your browser only to have it refuse to load, even though you knew the site was online?
The next time that happens to you, try flushing your computer’s DNS cache.
Note: I won’t go into what the DNS cache is (and does) here, but if you’re interested you’ll find a thorough explanation right here.
For now, suffice it to say an issue with one or more of the stored DNS entries in your computer’s DNS cache can prevent affected websites from loading in a browser.
Luckily, it’s very easy to flush the DNS cache on both Windows PCs and Macs. Just follow the steps below:
If you have a Windows PC:
1 – Click on the Start button to display the Start menu, then type the letters cmd.
2 – Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
3 -Answer Yes in response to the “User Account Control” dialog.
4 – Copy and paste the following at the command prompt (right after the > character):
ipconfig /flushdns
5 – Press the Enter key.
6 – Restart your PC.
If you have a Mac:
The procedure for flushing the DNS cache on a Mac varies depending on which version of macOS is running on the machine.
You’ll find step-by-step instructions for your Mac’s installed version of macOS right here.
