Today’s featured tech tip….
Reminder: A new device doesn’t require a new Facebook account
Every now and then I’ll receive a Facebook friend request from someone I’m already friends with, and usually when that happens I naturally assume that person’s account has been cloned by a scammer.
But then I’ll do a little investigating and discover that the new account was actually created by original account’s real owner.
Why? Because they got a new computer, smartphone or tablet and they erroneously believed they needed to open a new Facebook account to use with the new device.
Truth be told, you only need to have one Facebook account regardless of how many devices you own.
Just log into your existing account on the new device using the same login credentials you used to log into the account on the old one, and you’ll be back to Facebooking in an instant.
The thing is, Facebook doesn’t care which device you use to access your account. As long as you can correctly enter your login information, you’ll be good to go.
All creating a new account for every new device accomplishes is confusing and frustrating your Facebook friends when they see you have multiple active accounts.
If you’re planning to get a new device you can prepare for it by making a note of your existing Facebook account’s login info. That way you’ll have it handy when you’re ready to log into your account on the new device for the very first time.
