Today’s featured tech tip….
How to charge your phone as quickly as possible
If you often find yourself in situations where you need to charge your phone’s battery as quickly as possible, there are several things you can do to speed the process up:
1 – Use a “fast” wall charger.
Fast chargers are designed to speed up the charging process by supplying extra charging power in specific ways to devices that have fast-charging capability.
More fast-charge compatible devices are being sold all the time, and using a fast charger with those devices can top off your battery a lot faster.
In case you’re wondering, you can safely use a fast charger with regular phones as well because both the chargers and the phones have protections against over-charging built in.
2 – Choose a fast charger that matches your fast-chargeable device.
There are several different fast charging technologies in use today, and using one that doesn’t match the technology used in your phone won’t help you.
Don’t worry about an incompatible fast charging technology damaging your phone, because it won’t. But it won’t speed up the charging process either.
When shopping for a fast charger look for one that explicitly states on the package (or sales page) that it’s compatible with your specific fast-chargeable phone.
3 – Use a fast charging cable.
For obvious reasons, if you have a fast charger you’d be better off using a fast charging cable instead of a regular cable if your phone is fast-chargeable.
4 – Turn the phone off while it’s charging.
Unless you absolutely and positively must keep your phone turned on in order to receive important calls and texts, power it completely down while it’s charging.
A device that’s powered up consumes power, and any power that’s consumed by the phone’s internal components cannot be applied to the battery for charging.
Alternatively, you can simply place the phone in Airplane Mode. That will disable all the phone’s radios which will allow the phone to charge a lot faster.
5 – Avoid using a wireless charger or charging from a computer’s USB port.
Everything else being equal, a wired charger will charge your phone’s battery faster than a wireless charger, and even a standard wall charger will charge it faster than a standard Type-A USB port.
