How to stop Windows 11 from changing your default printer
If you have more than one printer connected to your Windows 11 PC you’ve probably noticed how Windows keeps changing the default printer to the last printer you used to print something.
This can be quite annoying if you use a particular printer for most print jobs and only switch to the other one when you need to send a rare print job to it.
Luckily, there’s an easy way to tell Windows to keep its grubby hands off your default printer setting. Just follow the steps below:
1 – Right-click the Start button and select Settings from the menu.
2 – In the left-hand pane, click Bluetooth & devices.
3 – In the right-hand pane, click Printers & scanners.
4 – Toggle the “Let Windows manage my default printer” setting to Off.
That’s all there is to it. Windows 11 will no longer change your default printer without your explicit instructions to do so (via the Settings, of course).
By the way, you can do this in Windows 10 as well, but there are a few subtle differences in the steps you’ll need to follow. This post explains how to do it in Windows 10.
