Today’s featured tech tip….
How to get the exact model of your Android phone
If you’ve been using Android phones for a while you’ve probably noticed how there can be several different models of phones that have very similar sounding names.
For example, Motorola has the popular Moto G line.
Let’s say you own a Moto G device and you have to call Tech Support for some reason. The very first question you’re likely to hear is “What’s the model number of your phone?”
If so, simply saying Moto G likely won’t help all that much because there are several current models of Motorola Moto G phones, including the following:
- Moto G Power 5G
- Moto G Play
- Moto G 5G
- Moto G Stylus 5G
- Moto G Pure
If you’ve had your phone for a while you might not remember which specific model of Moto G you have, assuming you ever knew in the first place. Most folks would probably come home from the store just knowing they bought a Moto G.
The thing is, although the names of these five devices are very similar, their hardware, installed software, features and even their settings menus can vary quite a bit from device to device.
Luckily, Google has made it very easy to quickly get the exact model number of your Android phone. Here’s how:
1 – Tap the gear-shaped Settings icon.
2 – Scroll all the way to the bottom and tap About phone.
3 – Tap Model.
You should now see your phone’s exact model number along with its serial number and hardware version (all of which you might be asked to supply).
