Today’s featured tech tip….
How every user of a shared PC can use their own Chrome bookmarks
Do multiple people in your home or office use the same shared computer? If so, that machine’s Chrome browser is probably stuffed to the gills with every user’s favorite bookmarks.
Well, did you know there’s an easy way for every person who uses a shared computer to use their own personal bookmarks without having to maneuver through the maze of bookmarks that belong to the machine’s other users?
All you have to do is create a separate user profile for each person and have everyone quickly switch to their own profile when it comes their turn to use the computer.
But wait, there’s more…
Separate Chrome profiles have other benefits as well:
1 – Each user will have access to their own browsing history.
2 – Each user can optionally have Chrome store just their own passwords, and no one else’s.
Note: I don’t really recommend letting your browser store your passwords for the reasons stated here.
3 – Each user can use Chrome with their own preferred browser settings in force.
As you can see, setting up individual Chrome profiles can make it seem like every user is using their very own computer (at least when using Chrome) even when they are actually using a shared computer.
Sound good? Luckily, it’s very easy to create a user profile on the Chrome browser. This Google Support page has easy-to-follow step-by-step instructions.
