Today’s quick tech tip….
How to make lightning fast searches on your Mac
If you have a Mac you probably know you can quickly find most any app, setting or document that’s on the machine by searching for it with the powerful Spotlight search tool. But did you know you can streamline your searches quite a bit by typing the item’s initials?
For example, if you want to launch Image Capture you can type the letters ic.
Need to open the App Store? Give as a try.
System Preferences? Type sp.
Need to find and print a document named “Bobby’s Work Schedule”? Try searching for the letters bw or bws.
Of course you can always search for apps by typing just the first few letters of the first word, but using initials instead will narrow down your searches faster if you happen to have several apps, system settings and/or documents that begin with the same word or sequence of letters.
Be aware that there might be a slight Spotlight learning curve involved if you’re looking for an item you’ve never searched for before, but in the vast majority of cases the item you’re looking for will pop right up.
