Today’s quick tech tip….
Q&A: Can you add a DVD drive to a new laptop?
Question from Barbara: After 7 years my beloved Dell laptop died on me and I had to replace it with a new one.
The problem is the new one I bought doesn’t have a DVD player, and I really need one bad.
Is there any way to add a DVD player to a new Dell Inspiron 3511 laptop?
Rick’s answer: Barbara, there’s no way to add an internal optical drive to that laptop but you can easily use an external DVD+/-RW Drive with it.
All you’ll have to do is plug it into an open USB port and you’ll be in business. You won’t even have to install a driver for it.
You can get one of these external DVD drives most anywhere that computer gear is sold, including your local Walmart.
If you’d like a specific recommendation, this is the one I use and it does a great job for me.
I hope this helps, Barbara. Good luck.
