Today’s quick tech tip….
Why you MUST remember your LastPass master password
I recently received a desperate plea for help from someone who got permanently locked out of her LastPass account because she couldn’t remember her master password.
She tried every available option on the Master Password Recovery page, but nothing worked for her.
Luckily, she was able to reset some of her passwords manually using those websites’ password reset tools, but she was unable to reset a few of the most important ones, including the one to her bank account (she had to go to the bank in person and show ID, but the nearest branch was 6 hours away due to a recent move).
If you’ve been reading my blog and newsletter for a while you know I strongly recommend against using ANY password manager service/app.
That being said, I know that some folks are going to continue to use them, and that’s fine. After all, it’s a personal choice based upon every individual’s risk/reward calculation.
If you decide to use LastPass or any other password manager, make sure you never forget the master password that grants access to all of your other passwords.
Yes, you might be able to reset a forgotten master password, but as this unfortunate lady can tell you, there are no guarantees.
