Today’s quick tech tip….
How many times can you recharge your MacBook’s battery?
As you probably know, the batteries in modern laptops and other gadgets can only be charged a finite number of times before they’ll fail to hold a usable charge.
Charging your device’s battery from empty to full constitutes one charge cycle. The thing is, one recharge doesn’t necessarily use up an entire charge cycle.
For example, if you plug your machine in to charge after depleting the battery to 50%, that only uses up one-half of a charge cycle. That means you can charge it from 50% again tomorrow and those two days’ charges together will use up one full charge cycle.
In practice, you should be able to charge your battery more times than the stated max number of charge cycles unless you completely deplete the battery charge virtually every time you use the machine.
So how many times will you be able to charge the battery in your particular MacBook?
There’s no way to come up with an exact number but you can get a rough ball-park figure by determining the max number of charge cycles your particular MacBook’s battery is rated for and subtracting the number of cycles you’ve already used.
Now take the number of charge cycles remaining and think about how use your MacBook.
Do you typically use the machine until the battery is depleted to around 50% and then put it on charge? If so, you can take the number of charge cycles remaining and double it.
If you tend to recharge your battery from various states of discharge you’ll have to just use your best guess as to how many actual recharges it’ll take to use up the remaining charge cycles.
Sound confusing and difficult? Well, it really isn’t.
This Apple Support page has all the detailed info you need in order to calculate a rough estimate of how many more times you’ll be able to recharge your MacBook’s battery.
