Today’s quick tech tip….
Q&A: Can ‘Activation Lock’ be bypassed on an iPhone?
Question from Phil: My daughter forgot the PIN to her iPhone 11 and she got locked out of it.
We tried to erase and reactivate the phone but we can’t because it’s in ‘Activation Lock’ mode. The problem is she can’t remember the Apple ID and password she used to set up the phone.
Do you know of any way to bypass Activation Lock so she can use her phone again?
Rick’s answer: I wish I had a more pleasing answer for you Phil, but I’m afraid your daughter won’t be able to reset this phone unless she can manage to somehow come up with the Apple ID and password she used to activate the device.
As long as ‘Find My iPhone’ is enabled on the phone it’s going to remain Activation Locked, and unfortunately there’s no way to bypass it. To be sure, Apple has it locked down tight.
That being said, before you completely give up hope, try reading this page to see if your daughter can successfully find her Apple ID.
If so, she should be able to reset the password for that account with the help of this page.
Hopefully those pages can help your daughter sign back in with her Apple ID and password so she can disable ‘Find My iPhone’ on the device. But if she is ultimately unable to do so I’m afraid the phone is destined to remain in Activation Lock forever.
Best of luck to your daughter, Phil. I really hope this works out for her.
