Question from Ronnie: I have a MacBook Air that has only two USB-C ports on it, but I have four USB-C devices that I need to connect to it.
I’m looking for a USB-C hub with at least three USB-C ports on it but I can’t find one.
They all have either one or two USB-C ports and about a dozen or so other ports that I don’t need.
My question is why don’t they make USB-C hubs that have more than two USB-C ports on them?
Rick’s answer: That’s a great question Ronnie, and the short answer is Bluetooth.
Most modern devices that are equipped with USB-C ports also come with Bluetooth wireless capability, allowing the user to connect multiple devices to the machine without having to connect any wires or cables.
Of course that answer doesn’t help you with resolving your situation, but it just so happens that you are in luck.
Truth be told, they do make a few USB-C hubs that come with more than two USB-C ports. In fact, this one (that I use myself and like) comes with several of them.
This hub has one USB-C 5Gbps Power Delivery (PD) port, three USB-C 10Gbs Gen 2 ports and three USB 3.0 5Gbs Ports. Based on what you said above, that’s obviously plenty for your needs.
If you don’t need Power Delivery (PD) capability or the faster 10Gbps data transfer speeds, there are several 4-port 5Gbps USB-C hubs available at slightly lower prices. Just check with Amazon or your favorite local electronics retailer.
I hope this helps, Ronnie. Good luck!
Update from Ronnie: That looks like exactly what I need, Rick. I ordered one and I’ll let you know how it works out. Thanks for your help.
