Today’s quick tech tip….
How to disable Google’s Trending Searches feature
If you click (or tap) inside the Google Search box you’ll be presented with a list of trending searches, which is basically a list of popular items that lots of other users have been searching for recently.
Plenty of folks love seeing the trending searches, but I’m not one of them. When I use Google it’s because I’m looking for some piece of specific information, not checking to see what everyone else is searching for.
If you’re not really interested in seeing the trending searches either, you can easily turn them off. Just follow the steps below for the device you’re using.
If you use Google in a web browser on a laptop or desktop computer:
1 – Visit the Google Home page.
2 – Click the Settings link in the bottom-right corner of the window.
3 – Click Search settings.
4 – In the left-hand pane, make sure Search results is selected.
5 – In the right-hand pane, scroll down to the “Autocomplete with trending searches” section and select Do not show popular searches.
6 – Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click Save.
If you use the Google app on a mobile device:
1 – Open the Google app and tap your profile avatar photo in the top-right corner of the screen.
2 – Tap Settings.
3 – Tap General.
4 – Toggle the “Autocomplete with trending searches” setting to Off (the slider should turn from blue to gray).
That’s all there is to it. You’ll still see search suggestions related to your search term (which is good), but you should no longer see any trending searches when you click or tap inside the Google Search box.
