Today’s quick tech tip….
How (and when) to tell Windows to send all audio to one channel
As you probably know, your Windows PC can play some pretty decent sounding audio in full stereo if you have a compatible set of stereo headphones, earbuds or speakers.
However, if you have a headset that only delivers sound to one ear via a single headphone you’re probably missing out on bits and pieces of the stereo audio recordings you listen to.
Luckily, you can easily let Windows know that you have a single headphone headset and have it deliver ALL audio from stereo recordings to that one headphone. Just follow the steps below for your Windows version.
Windows 10:
1 – Right-click the Start button, then select Settings from the menu.
2 – Click Ease of Access.
3 – In the left-hand pane, click Audio.
4 – In the right-hand pane, click the slider beside “Turn on mono audio” to enable it.
Windows 11:
1 – Right-click the Start button, then select Settings from the menu.
2 – In the left-hand pane, click System.
3 – In the right-hand pane, click Sound.
4 – Click the slider beside “Mono audio” to enable it.
That’s all there is to it. From now on you won’t miss out on any stereo audio simply because you don’t have a headphone covering one of your ears.
