Today’s quick tech tip….
How to declutter your Android phone’s Home screen (and keep it that way)
Is the Home screen on your Android phone cluttered with icons that you rarely even use?
If so, you can easily remove the icons that you don’t use on a regular basis and prevent new app installatations from automatically adding those apps’ icons to the Home screen.
First, ditch the Home screen icons that you don’t use on a regular basis…
1 – Tap on an unwanted icon and drag it towards the top of the screen, then drag it onto the word Remove after it appears at the very top of the screen.
Note: Just removing an app’s icon from the Home screen doesn’t uninstall the app from your phone. You’ll still be able to open that app at any time by tapping on its icon in the App Drawer.
2 – Repeat step 1 until you have removed all the icons that don’t really need to be on your Home screen.
Note: You can place an icon for any app onto the Home screen at any time by finding its icon in the App Drawer, then tapping on it and dragging it to the left edge of the screen and onto the Home screen.
Now tell your phone not to automatically place new icons on the Home screen in the future when new apps are installed…
1 – Tap and hold any blank area of your phone’s Home screen until a menu pops up.
2 – Tap Home settings.
3 – Toggle the “Add icon to Home screen” setting to Off (the slider should turn gray).
That’s all there is to it. Your Android phone’s Home screen should now contain only the icons for apps that you use on a regular basis. Also, no new Home screen icons should be added automatically when you install new apps in the future.
