How to opt-out of pre-approved credit offers
Don’t you just love opening your mailbox and pulling out a stack of pre-approved credit offers?
Yeah, me neither.
If you’ve ever wondered how your name and address got on those mailing lists in the first place, the answer is simple…
The consumer credit reporting companies Equifax, Experian, Innovis, and TransUnion sold it to them.
Well, I have good news and I have bad news about this.
First, the bad news…
I don’t know of any way to get your name and address off the lists that are being used right now.
All you can do is make sure you don’t respond in any way to any of the offers you receive and wait for the companies to eventually ‘clean’ your info from their lists.
And they do ‘clean’ their lists periodically because it costs them a lot of money to prepare and send mailings to people who never respond to their offers.
And now, the good news…
You can ‘opt-out’ by telling the credit reporting companies to stop selling your info. All you have to do is fill out a form on a special website the credit reporting companies have collectively created just for this purpose.
When you opt-out via the website you’ll have two options:
1 – Opt-out for five years by filling out an online form
2 – Opt-out permanently by printing out and mailing in a paper form
Personally, I don’t ever want to receive another one of these offers as long as I live so I chose to opt-out permanently. Your decision might well be different, and that’s fine.
Either way, here’s how to-opt out of receiving pre-approved credit offers (and insurance offers too):
1 – Visit OptOutPrescreen.com and read the info on the page.
2 – Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Click Here To Opt-In Or Opt-Out button and follow the instructions.

Solidremote 12V – 24V Secure Wireless RF Remote Control Relay Switch (#ad)
A while back I lost the only remote to my 1970’s era Sears garage door opener, and unfortunately I was unable to find a replacement remote that would work with it.
The thought of just replacing the entire opener with a new one crossed my mind, but I ultimately decided against it because it still works like a charm.
What I did instead was install one of these little gems from Solidremote (along with a separate 12VDC adapter to power it) and now I have two fantastic remotes for that beloved old opener – all for around 20 bucks since I already had an unused 12VDC power adapter.
I’ve been using this setup for a little over a year now, and it works flawlessly.
