Today’s quick tech tip….
How to shield your family from (most) adult Internet content
As you probably know, the Internet is chock full of “adult” content that’s readily available to virtually anyone with an Internet-connected device.
There are browser extensions and other tools available for blocking adult content, but there’s one powerful tool that will work on all of your family’s devices, and it won’t cost you a cent to use it.
What’s more, it can even speed up and enhance your Internet experience.
This magic tool is OpenDNS, an awesome third-party DNS nameserver system that’s owned by Cisco.
In a nutshell, DNS servers translate human-friendly web addresses like www.example.com into the machine-friendly numeric addresses that the Internet uses to route “digital traffic” to the correct destination.
After you change the DNS settings on your devices to point to OpenDNS’ nameservers, those devices will bypass your ISP’s slow (and wide open) DNS servers and route all of your Internet traffic through their fast, adult content blocking DNS servers.
That means (most of) the adult content that would normally make it onto your devices will be blocked before it even gets to them.
I included the term “most of” because no tool that blocks adult content is perfect. Some will ultimately sneak through. Just keep that in mind as you take advantage of OpenDNS’ enhanced nameservers.
Want to give OpenDNS a try? Just visit the page at the link below and click the Setup Guide button in the “OpenDNS Family Shield” box:

That’s all there is to it. If you decide to give OpenDNS a try, please reply to one of my emails and let me know what you think.
