Today’s quick tech tip….
How to switch your Android device to 24-hour (military) time
By default, Android devices are set to display the current time in 12-hour (AM/PM) format, and for most folks that’s fine because that’s what is commonly used in the civilian world in many countries.
But what if you happen to be in the military or work in any branch of the emergency services field? If so, you almost certainly use 24-hour (military) time instead.
Why military time? Because when you reference each of the 24 hours of a day by a different number there is no danger of confusing an AM hour with its corresponding PM hour.
If you work in a field that uses the 24-hour time format it just makes sense to have your devices set to use it as well. Here’s how to do it on an Android device:
Note: The actual procedure for setting your particular device to use 24-hour time might vary slightly from the steps listed below, therefore you should just use them as a general guide.
1 – Tap your device’s Settings icon (it looks like a “gear“).
2 – Scroll down and tap System.
3 – Tap Date & time.
4 – In the “Time Format” section, toggle the “Use locale default” option to Off.
5 – Toggle the “Use 24-hour format” option to On.
That’s all there is to it. Your device should now be displaying the time in 24-hour (military) format.
