Today’s quick tech tip….
Is Google about to purge all of your files, photos and Gmail messages?
If you use Gmail, Google Drive and/or Google Photos and you haven’t logged into one or more of those services in a good while, you could be about to lose all the items you have stored in the inactive service(s).
According to this Google Support article, any Google service (of the three mentioned above) that has been inactive for two years is subject to having all the files and info associated with that service purged from Google’s servers.
Google says they warn you via email and in-service notifications before they actually delete your stuff, but if you never check your Gmail or log into the inactive Google service(s) you obviously won’t see the warning messages.
And by the way, logging into just one Google service won’t save your files and info in the inactive services, even if you log into that one service every day. This policy applies to each Google service separately.
Luckily, it’s very easy to avoid having your files, photos and Gmail messages deleted for inactivity. All you have to do is log into every Gmail service you use at least once every two years. Problem solved.
