Today’s Quick Tech Tip….
How to send disappearing emails (a la Snapchat) with Gmail
You’re probably familiar with Snapchat’s disappearing messages. Have you ever wished you could send an email to someone and have it automatically disappear after a certain length of time?
Well, you can easily do that same basic thing with your Gmail messages.
Follow the steps below to send a “disappearing” email from your Gmail account.
If you use Gmail in a web browser on a laptop or desktop computer:
1 – Open Gmail and compose a new email.
2 – Select the recipient, then fill in the email’s subject line and write your message.
3 – Click the Toggle confidential mode icon on the right side of the menu bar at the very bottom of the compose message window (it looks like a clock superimposed over a lock).
4 – Select an expiration date in the box that just popped up, then click Save.
5 – Click Send.
If you use the Gmail app on a mobile device:
1 – Open the Gmail app and compose a new email.
2 – Select the recipient, then fill in the email’s subject line and write your message.
3 – Tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the app, then select Confidential mode.
4 – Select an expiration date, then tap Save.
5 – Tap the Send icon (it looks like a right-facing arrow).
That’s all there is to it. The email you just sent will “expire” and become inaccessible to the recipient on the expiration date that you selected.
And by the way, since the email was sent using Confidential mode, the recipient won’t be able to forward, copy, print or download the email at any time, even before it disappears on the expiration date.
