Today’s Quick Tip….
How to ‘cast’ your Android device’s screen to a TV
Chances are you’ve seen those neat presentations where the speaker mirrored the contents of a computer screen onto a large TV for viewing by an audience.
Did you know you can do the same thing with your Android phone or tablet?
If you have either a Chromecast device or smart TV you can duplicate your Android device’s screen on the much larger TV screen.
If you’re wondering why you would ever want to do that, there are several reasons, including one that might appeal to many parents and grandparents…
Let’s say you have lots of great photos of the kids and grandkids on your phone that you’d love to show to a group of friends or relatives.
Instead of choosing a pic and then passing the phone from person to person you could just cast the first photo onto a TV screen, then swipe away to display all the pics on the TV, in sequence.
Pretty cool, right?
Many Android devices have a native Screencast feature that allows you to do this without installing an app.
To see if your device has it, do the following:
1 – Swipe down from the top of the screen and then swipe down again to fully open the “Quick Settings” menu.
2 – Look for a Cast icon. If you see one, tap it and choose the output device you want to cast to (usually either a Chromecast device or a smart TV).
But what if there is no Cast icon?
If you don’t see a Cast icon on the Quick Settings menu, don’t despair. You can still cast your device’s screen to a TV using the Google Home app.
Just open the Google Play Store app on your device and search for Google Home. After you install the app just follow the steps on this page to set everything up.
