Today’s Quick Tip….
How to harness the real power of browser bookmarks
Like most folks these days, you probably keep several of your favorite websites bookmarked in your browser so you can visit them at any time with a single click or tap.
Bookmarks can be real time-savers, but most people aren’t taking full advantage of them. They simply click a bookmark to visit a website’s home page and then navigate to the section of the site they’re interested in from there.
But truth be told, most any page on a website can be bookmarked, allowing you to go straight to the section you’re looking for with a single click or tap.
For example, let’s say you send and/or receive a lot of PayPal invoices over the course of your day.
If so, you probably log in to your PayPal account and then follow the links from the home page to the Invoice Management page, right? But there’s a much faster and super-direct way to get there…
Simply bookmark this URL and you’ll go straight to the Invoicing section as soon as you log in:
https://www.paypal.com/invoice/s/manage
Or let’s say you regularly visit Kroger’s website but the only thing you do there is manage your prescriptions via the pharmacy section. Bookmark this URL and it’ll take you directly to the Pharmacy page:
https://www.kroger.com/health/pharmacy
And you can go even deeper than that for your bookmark…
Let’s say the page you visit most often is the page on which you refill your prescriptions. Bookmark this URL and you’re there:
https://www.kroger.com/rx/landing-page?redirectUrl=/rx/refills
You’ll find that this works with most any page you can navigate to. If you can navigate to a page, you can almost always create a bookmark for its URL.
What typically happens is you’ll click or tap on the bookmark and you’ll then be asked to log in to your account (if a login is required to access that page). As soon as you log in you’ll be taken directly to the bookmarked page.
Some websites will re-direct you to the Home page after you log in, but those sites are few and far between.
Of course there are gazillions of individual pages you can bookmark on the Internet, and “deep-link” bookmarking the pages you visit on a regular basis can save you a ton of time.
By the way, if you’re wondering how to find the URLs you’ll need to bookmark, it’s easy. Simply navigate to the page or section of interest like you always do and then bookmark the URL that’s in the browser’s address bar after you get there.
