Today’s Quick Tip….
Three ways to open a Command Prompt window in Windows 10/11
If you’ve been using Microsoft Windows for a while you’re probably familiar with the ‘Command Prompt’ window.
If not, it’s a very handy tool that allows you to execute numerous powerful (and incredibly useful) DOS-style commands right from the Windows command line.
Most people tend to open a Command Prompt window the same way every time, even though there are multiple ways to do it – and each way is the best way at times, depending on the situation.
Today I’m going to explain my three favorite ways to open a Command Prompt window in Windows 10 and Windows 11…
1 – The first method is handy if you already have a “File Explorer” window open. If so, simply type cmd into File Explorer’s address bar and then press the Enter key.
2 – The second method is great if you’re used to doing most things via the keyboard. Simply press the Windows key and immediately type cmd, then press the Enter key.
3 – The third method is for folks who use primarily use their mouse for navigation. Simply right-click on the Start button and then select one of these options (depending on which options are available in your particular version of Windows):
- Windows Powershell
- Windows Powershell (Admin)
- Windows Terminal
- Windows Terminal (Admin)
That’s all there is to it. Now you know three different ways to quickly open a Command Prompt window.
