Today’s Quick Tip….
Is it possible to be truly anonymous on the Internet?
That’s a question that I receive in my Inbox on a regular basis. And the answer I always give is a big NO!
Incognito/private browser windows and VPNs can help hide your identity from the general public, but those tools cannot, and will not hide your identity from government entities.
After all, the government has tracking and tracing tools that most of us could never even conceive of them having. If they want to track you down, they can.
What’s more, we all make mistakes. And all it takes is one little mistake to leave a trail that leads right to your doorstep.
Please don’t take this tip to mean I think you’re up to no good. It isn’t that at all.
The reason I’m telling you this is because innocent people are mistaken for crooks and thieves every day. Seemingly innocent things we do can appear to be not so innocent in the eyes of law enforcement.
I said all of the above to say this…
Be careful and think about the things you do and the information you share online. It pays to think like a cop or government investigator and shy away from doing anything that could be taken the wrong way.
