First of all, I want to thank everyone who has been keeping up with my daily Tech Tips and “Pictures of the Day” on Facebook and Twitter.
I’m truly honored that you are willing to take time out of your busy day to check out the things I have to share. Thank you all so much!
After long and careful consideration I have decided it’s time to stop posting the links to my tips and daily pictures on social media and share them via my email newsletter instead. Here’s why…
1 – Facebook’s constant reduction in reach
Facebook and Twitter are constantly reducing the number of friends, group members and followers that receive my posts in their newsfeeds.
I receive several messages every day from folks asking if I have stopped posting my tips, and it seems to be getting worse of late.
My sincere goal is to help as many people as possible by providing (hopefully) useful tips and information for using today’s technology and ways to stay safe online.
I feel like I’m spinning my wheels when I receive messages like the ones I described above.
By sending the links to my posts in a single daily email (at 8am each morning) I can know that the folks who really want to receive them will get them.
2 – It’s difficult for me to respond to messages in a timely manner on Facebook/Messenger
I often don’t receive requests for help on Facebook until days or even weeks after the messages were sent.
Due to time limitations the amount of time I can spend monitoring Facebook for messages and comments is limited. In fact, there are some days when I’m unable to get onto Facebook at all.
Even worse, Messenger has a way sending many incoming messages into some hidden abyss. Quite often I’ll receive a message asking mw why I’m ignoring my messages when I didn’t actually receive the original message(s) at all.
Communicating via email makes things a lot easier and more efficient. I check my email several times a day so it’s a lot more likely that I’ll see your questions and comments in a timely manner. And since many of the questions I receive can be answered with just a few short sentences or a couple of short paragraphs, I can often reply right on the spot.
For the reasons listed above, I’m asking everyone who enjoys receiving my tips and seeing my “Picture of the Day” to sign up for my daily Tech Tips email newsletter by entering your email address into the sign-up form on this page.
If you’re reading this in a web browser on a computer you’ll find the form in the right-hand sidebar.
If you’re using a mobile device you’ll find it by scrolling down towards the bottom of the page.
My emails do not contain any type of SPAM. They simply include links to my blog posts (i.e. tips) and other useful information that I think you might enjoy.
I will never sell or share you email address with any third party, guaranteed.
And I won’t flood your inbox with tons of messages. You’ll receive just one email every morning at approximately 8am.
Bottom line: I love sharing the “techie” things I’ve learned over the years with my friends. And if you’re reading this, you are indeed a friend.
I try to do my best to keep everyone up-to-date on the latest scams and hidden online dangers.
And of course I enjoy sharing the “Picture of the Day” to (hopefully) get your day started off on a positive and uplifting note.
If you enjoy seeing these things I invite you to join my email list some time before April 1.
Starting April 1, I will no longer be posting any tips or daily pictures on social media. I’ll still be on there enjoying the virtual company of my friends and followers as time permits, but my only posts from that day forward will be of a personal nature.
Important: After you sign up for the emails be sure to add my email address to you address book or contacts list. That will prevent your email application from mistakenly sending my emails to your SPAM folder.
You’ll find instructions for doing that right here.
I’m hoping that Facebook and the other social media companies will start showing our posts to ALL the people who want to see them at some point in the future.
If that happens I’ll gladly start posting my stuff on there again. But until that happens I just won’t feel right in doing it since so many people are getting left out of the loop.
If you decide that you’d rather not join my list, I’ll certainly understand. Friends are friends always, and that will never change in the least.
However, if you do wish to keep seeing the things I post on my blog I welcome your addition to my email family.
Thanks again for your kindness and understanding.
Your friend always,
Rick Rouse

P.S. Since so many of my friends and followers won’t receive this post in their newsfeeds I would greatly appreciate if you shared it on Facebook and Twitter.
