As you know, the scammers of the world are always on the lookout for new ways to separate you from your hard-earned money.
And unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic has given them plenty of new ways to do it.
According to the relevant government agencies, several different Covid-19 vaccines are about to receive FDA approval and the scammers are already taking advantage of that fact.
Just this morning I received two different SPAM emails offering to sell me a dose of Covid-19 vaccine that I can administer myself for the price of $80.
They also offered a discounted price of $50 to seniors, with free shipping.
Several people have also reported that this same scam is being perpetrated by both telephone voice calls and SMS text messages.
Of course this is an obvious scam, for these reasons:
1 – Although they are on the brink of being approved, no Covid-19 vaccines have officially received FDA approval as of this time.
2 – There will be no self-administered vaccines. Every dose of every vaccine will have to be administered by a health care professional (a doctor, a nurse or a pharmacist).
3 – Once the vaccines are available they will be distributed to the population in batches according to a schedule that’s still being developed.
Presumably the initial doses will go to the people who are at highest risk from the virus. In other words, they won’t be available to just anyone – at least during the first several months after their release.
I short, this is simply another scam via which the scammers are hoping to take advantage of the widespread fear of catching Covid-19.
And as always, this scam is really targeting the elderly (hence the supposed $30 discount for seniors).
If you receive an email, text message or phone call similar to the ones I described above you can be 100% certain that it’s a scam.
If you have anyone in your family that you believe might be vulnerable to falling for this scam you really need to warn them ASAP.
Bottom line: Once the FDA actually approves one or more of these vaccines you’ll hear about it on the news. Don’t believe anything you receive in your email or see on Facebook, Twitter or any other non-news media entity.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has published this handy guide that’s filled with information on the program to develop and distribute the Covid-19 vaccines.
