With all the budget-level laptops running Windows 10 in S-Mode on the market these days, I’m always pleased when I happen to see a new low-cost laptop running Windows 10 Home.
I recently had an opportunity to check out the new Dell Inspiron 3585 15.6″ FHD Laptop and I found it to be a fantastic alternative to most of those (slightly) lower priced S-Mode machines.
This laptop has plenty of speed and power for general Internet and home use, yet it fits easily into most consumers’ budgets.
Here’s a quick run-down of the specs:
Note: As indicated in the “About this item” section, this laptop has twice the RAM and SSD storage than the base model (as described in the “Product Description” section).
- 15.6″ Non-Touchscreen Truelife LED-Backlit FHD (1920 x 1080) Display
- AMD Radeon Vega 3 Graphics
- 1 HDMI port for connecting an external monitor or HDTV
- AMD Ryzen 3 2200U Processor
- 8GB DDR4 RAM
- 256GB SSD
- Dolby Audio Stereo Speakers
- Two Type-A USB 3.0 (USB 3.1 Gen 1) Ports
- One USB 2.0 Port
- 802.11ac Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth 4.1
- Full Keyboard with 10-Key Numeric Keypad
- Windows 10 Home
As you can see, this machine comes packed with a lot more power and features than most of the lower-cost entry-level laptops being sold today.
The screen on this laptop is bright and clear and the keyboard is surprisingly responsive considering the machine’s relatively low cost.
The one area where I found this laptop lacking in its battery life. While it isn’t terrible, I would typically expect better for a modern laptop in this price range.
Bottom line: If you’re looking for an affordable laptop that packs a bit more power and speed than the average entry-level machine (and runs Windows 10 Home instead of Windows 10 S), this one deserves serious consideration if you don’t need a battery that will last all day long.
