If you’re a blogger you probably know how important it is to keep your blog free of broken links.
And if you do, there’s a good chance that you have a plugin titled “Broken Link Checker” installed on your WordPress blog.
If so, you need to remove it right away!
It’s recently been discovered that this plugin is compromised by an extremely dangerous XSS (Cross Site Scripting) vulnerability.
I won’t go into the details of this critical security flaw here, but if you’re interested in why it’s do dangerous you can get all the info right here.
For now, suffice it to say that having this plugin installed leaves your blog wide open to hackers.
Unfortunately, the plugin author has decided that this flaw won’t be fixed, and that’s a shame because it’s truly an amazing plugin.
But as they say, things are what they are so you’ll need to stop using ‘Broken Links Checker” right away and remove it from your blog in order to prevent your blog from being hacked (probably in the very near future).
I’m in the process of searching for the best plugin to replace “Broken Link Checker”, but in the meantime the online broken link checking tool on this page is an excellent alternative.
Once I find another great WordPress plugin for tracking down broken links I’ll let you know about it in a new blog post.
