Are you a blogger who’s been using a stand-alone Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) plugin to enable 2FA on your blog’s login page?
If so, I have great news for you…
The awesome free Wordfence Security plugin will now add Two-Factor Authentication login security to your blog without having to use a separate 2FA plugin!
That means if you’re using the Wordfence plugin already (and you really should be) this will allow you to eliminate one of your currently installed plugins by removing the 2FA plugin that’s currently installed on your blog.
If the Wordfence plugin is already installed you just need to install the latest update to get the added 2FA functionality.
If you’re not currently using WordFence I strongly recommend that you install it ASAP to take advantage of the extra login security provided by Two-Factor Authentication plus all the other powerful security features the Wordfence plugin offers.
Just be aware that even though Wordfence is now handling your blog’s 2FA login feature you’ll still need a separate Authenticator app on your phone to generate the codes you’ll use to login with.
Personally, I use and recommend the free Google Authenticator app.
Note: It would probably be a good idea to remove your current 2FA plugin before you enable 2FA via Wordfence just to make sure the two plugins don’t conflict with each other somehow and lock you out of your blog’s WordPress Dashboard.
I haven’t heard any reports of this happening as of yet, but my mantra is “Better safe than sorry!”.
Bottom line: You can now use the awesome Wordfence security plugin to enable Two-Factor Authentication on your WordPress blog without having to install an extra 2FA plugin.
